OUR FAQ
Everything you need to know about Laser Therapy and our service.
Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive, light-based therapy that uses specific wavelengths (varying colours of red) of red and near-infrared (invisible) light to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. It enhances cellular function, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue repair without the use of drugs or surgery, and with no serious documented side effects.
PBM/LLLT works by delivering light energy to the mitochondria in your cells—the part responsible for producing energy (ATP). This light stimulation increases cellular energy production, improves circulation, reduces oxidative stress, and promotes faster healing of tissues.
Yes, PBM/LLLT is effective for a wide range of pain conditions, including chronic pain (like arthritis or fibromyalgia), acute injuries (such as strains and sprains), post-surgical pain and scar healing, and neuropathic pain. It addresses the underlying causes by improving cellular health and reducing inflammation.
While PBM/LLLT is effective for many conditions, it may not be suitable for every type of pain. It is best used for musculoskeletal, inflammatory, and nerve-related issues. We will review your inquiry form and will discuss if PBM/LLLT is appropriate for your specific needs.
Some individuals notice improvements after one or two sessions, while others may require several before experiencing significant changes. PBM has a cumulative effect, and consistent treatments usually yield the best results.
PBM/LLLT is very safe when used appropriately. It is non-invasive, drug-free, and has no known long-term adverse effects. Mild side effects such as temporary redness or warmth are rare and typically short-lived.
PBM/LLLT is generally painless, and most report not feeling anything at all.
Some people report a gentle warmth, tingling, or a mild soothing sensation during the session. Many find the experience relaxing.
Side effects are minimal and uncommon. The most typical reactions are slight redness, temporary fatigue, headache, or a tingling sensation, which usually resolve quickly. There is no downtime required.
All initial appointments are up to an hour, and include discussing your needs and following a specific protocol necessary for greater treatment success.
Your second appointment onwards will usually last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the condition/s being treated, the size of the area, and the equipment used. Some treatments may take longer if multiple areas are addressed, and a longer appointment may be necessary, if so additional fees will apply.
Before committing to any appointments, we invite you to discuss your needs with us first to determine an estimate amount of treatments. Studies have shown a minimum 4-6 sessions is most beneficial, however the exact number of sessions depends on the nature and severity of the condition/s, and the individuals current level of health and fitness. Acute issues may respond in a few sessions, while chronic conditions often benefit from a longer course (e.g. 2–3 appointments per week over several weeks or more).
For new patients, we will tailor a treatment plan to suit your specific needs, and we currently only offer an initial six appointment option, which includes X1 up 60min, and X5 up to 30min appointments. If further appointments are needed/wanted, they can be booked and purchased individually on an as needed basis.
Fees vary based on the number of treatments needed. On average, a single treatment might range from $50-$150 dollars. Our Fee Schedule will be discussed with you and we do offer discounted rates for additional sessions if needed.
In most cases, PBM/LLLT is not yet covered by private insurance, though this may vary by provider or insurance plan. Unfortunately, we currently do not offer private health / insurance options, and we have temporarily reflected our fees accordingly to compensate for that.
PBM/LLLT is often used as part of an integrated treatment plan and is ideal for those seeking non-pharmacological approaches to healing. We will discuss this with you initially so you can make an informed decision moving forward.
No major preparation is needed, but it’s recommended to:
It is advised to not apply any lotions, creams, fake tan, or cosmetics to the body, especially to the treatment area
Wear safety compliant protective eyewear (Which we provide)
Inform your provider of any medications or medical conditions prior.
Unlike medications, PBM/LLLT addresses the root causes of pain by promoting cellular repair. It offers long-term relief without side effects associated with drugs or invasive procedures. It’s often used alongside physical therapy, chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy care, massage, kinesiology and other natural health related services.
PBM/LLLT enhances the effectiveness of other therapies by reducing inflammation and speeding tissue recovery. Combining it with physical therapy, exercise, or manual treatments may improve overall outcomes and reduce the need for medication.
PBM/LLLT is safe for most people, but it may not be recommended for:
Individuals with active cancer / tumors in the treatment area
Pregnant women (especially over the abdomen)
Those with photosensitivity disorders
People taking light-sensitive medications
You may discuss this before booking an appointment.
Consuming a healthy balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates and fats (animal meats, vegetables, fruit, salads, filtered water etc) is key for our body to heal more effectively. Lifestyle choices like smoking, drugs, alcohol, excessive sugar, junk foods, poor sleep, lack of exercise etc, reduces our body’s ability to heal more effectively.
After reviewing and discussing your pain / condition/s, we research studies from around the world, have been accredited and continually educated in the application of PBM/LLLT, along with our existing and ever growing knowledge of our past patients varying conditions and outcomes, we then compile the most effective protocol/s for you.
While our device may be used to treat almost any condition, we mainly specialise in all types of pain relief and pain management, including general and rheumatoid arthritis, injury rehabilitation and prevention, pre and post operative preparations and conditions, and sport performance.
Some body part pain conditions we treat are, but not limited to: back, neck, ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, foot and more...
We use a leading German made Reimers & Janssen (RJ) Physiolaser Olympic, a pioneer in LLLT / HILT / Photobiomodulation, and other non-invasive medical devices since 1982. https://rj-laser.com/en/
The additional “Olympic” title was given due to German Olympic athletes using it to promote faster, more effective healing for sport performance and injuries sustained from sports / their training.
We purchased our device/s and received our accredited education and safety certificate through The Australian Institute of Laser Therapy. https://ailt.com.au

Strength Factory Australia is our other business where we specalise in injury rehabilitation, general strength and resistance training and sport performance and small group training.
This environment is great as there is plenty of space, and we can provide general or specific exercise advice on the spot for those that need it.
NOTE: There is no gym activity during laser treatments, nor is it open to the public. Both Performance Laser Therapy and Strength Factory Australia operate by appointment only.
Everyone and everybody, and their lifestyles are different so results may vary. Even a doctor can't guarantee a prescribed medication will work or cure soeone. Some people experience immediate relief, others may feel results in a few hours, days, or in a few weeks.

Brief History of Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
Origins: Light Therapy & Lasers
Long before lasers existed, light therapy (photomedicine) was used for therapeutic purposes. The first laser was invented in 1960 by Theodore H. Maiman using a ruby crystal. Soon after, in 1961, the helium–neon (HeNe) laser was developed. Researchers began to explore whether low-power lasers could produce beneficial biological effects rather than destructive ones.
Key Discovery: Who & How
Hungarian physician Endre Mester (1903–1984) is credited with discovering the biological effects of low-level lasers. Around 1967, at Semmelweis Medical University in Budapest, Mester used a low-powered ruby laser (694 nm) on shaved mice. Expecting to test carcinogenic effects, he instead observed faster hair regrowth and improved wound healing. This marked the beginning of what we now call Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT).
The Growth of the Field
The term 'Low-Level Laser Therapy' emerged to describe lasers that stimulate biological tissue without heating or cutting. Over the following decades, research expanded into wound healing, pain reduction, and inflammation control. Today, the broader term 'Photobiomodulation (PBM)' is used to encompass both laser and LED-based light therapies.
